Rakett was invited to take part in the Feeling So Much International Prospective Lecture Series organised by the collective Instant Coffee as part of their retrospective show at Western Front in March 2012.
Talk by Rakett
Wednesday, April 04, 7pm
Norwegian curatorial collective Rakett will discuss their recent projects, including Common Lands – Allmannaretten a temporary art project using uses the process of redevelopment around Bjørvika in Oslo to highlight a number of issues associated with urban development, democracy, access and the distribution of power. Taking the current city development of Bjørvika in Oslo as its starting point, they invited three artist-duos: Bik Van der Pol, Dellbrügge & de Moll, and Geir Tore Holm & Søssa Jørgensen.
This lecture series is part of *Feeling So Much Yet Doing So Little* by Instant Coffee, an exhibition and series of events that is a tangential revisiting of the Canadian Artist Collective’s 12 year history. Rakett are the third speakers in the series. Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy’s will follow, but her lecture has been postponed until later in 2012. Each lecture is moderated by Caitlin Jones and will address their distinct theoretical and collaborative approaches.
This series is generously supported by Jane Irwin and Ross Hill.
About the exhibition
Instant Coffee: Feeling So Much Yet Doing So Little
Opening: February 16th at 7pm
Exhibition: February 17th – March 31st, 2012
As any good collective would, in 2005 the members of Instant Coffee drafted a “manifesto” of sorts. In it, they define themselves and their objectives in terms of their caffeinated namesake: Instant Coffee “mimics the real thing without the pretense of being better. It isn’t that much easier to make, but that much is reason enough to justify its particularities.”
After 12 years of artistic production, from the Disco Trailer to the Light Bar, Instant Coffee are in no need of justification. Their upcoming prospective retrospective will take place throughout the Western Front as an exhibition, a residency and a publication. An ever evolving series of events, including a store, wood whittling workshops, book launches, and an International Prospective Lecture Series will all take place over the course of the exhibition.
